Russian documents

Russian travel passport

For Russian citizens living abroad, permanently or temporarily.

Issuing or replacing a Russian travel passport without returning to Russia. What applies in your case depends on your status, your country of residence and the type of passport.

Issue and replacement

First issue, replacement on expiry, after a change of name, or when no pages remain.

Reviewing the file before it is submitted

We go through the documents and details in advance: most refusals and delays come from inconsistencies in the particulars, not from the substance of the request.

A passport for a child

Applications for a minor, including where the parents live in different countries.

A second travel passport

Where the current passport cannot always be to hand, or a second one is needed in parallel.

Worth knowing

Some steps require attending a consular office in your country of residence in person — for biometric data, for instance. A trip to Russia is not needed. What applies in your case depends on the type of passport and where you live.

Where it is used

Where this is required

The receiving party’s requirements govern not only the document but its form — translation, legalisation and how recently it must have been issued.

Entry, exit and transit

A valid travel passport remains the primary document for crossing borders, and many countries require its validity to extend well beyond the journey.

Residence permits and renewals

Immigration authorities look at the passport’s expiry: if it falls before the status applied for, the permit may be granted for a shorter term or deferred.

Bank identification

Account opening and periodic review rely on a valid document. An expired passport is a common reason for operations being suspended.

Family and notarial acts

Marriage, registering a child, powers of attorney and transactions all require an unexpired identity document.

Common questions

Russian travel passport

My passport has already expired — is that a problem?

No. An expired passport does not affect your citizenship or your right to a new one. It only limits travel until the new one is issued.

I have changed my name — what changes?

The passport must be replaced, and documents evidencing the change of name are added to the file. Other documents carrying the former name usually need updating at the same time.

Do I need a registered address in Russia?

Not holding a current registered address in Russia does not in itself remove your right to a passport, though it affects how the application proceeds.

Can I hold two travel passports?

A second travel passport is permitted. The grounds and conditions depend on your circumstances.

Does a residence permit or second citizenship interfere?

No. Holding a residence permit or a second citizenship does not prevent you from obtaining a Russian travel passport.
